Nutrition
A
nutritious mid-morning snack, lunch, and mid-afternoon snack are offered daily
to participants. The Elderhaus staff, cook, and registered nurse strive to keep
sugar, salt, and cholesterol intake to a minimum, as required by N.C. Adult Day
Care and Day Health Services Standards for Certification.
Therapeutic diets are
provided when prescribed by a physician. Additionally, every effort is made to
consider individual
preferences and serve meals that are delicious and suit the needs of all
participants.
Meals are
prepared and served in a sanitary manner using safe food handling techniques as
required by the New Hanover County Health Department. Elderhaus, Inc. employs a
full-time cook.
A registered dietitian provides consultative assistance quarterly to staff
members.
